new demo on the music page.  it’s called “after the quake,” inspired by author haruki murakami’s similarly titled collection of short stories.

the jalopy sessions

i wanted to compile some of my songs on an actual disc so i could distribute it to people.  in the end, i didn’t feel like coming up with album art, nor did i think the quality of the recordings warranted physical manifestation.  but, these recordings are as near and dear to me as my flaws so naturally, here they are.  these ten songs represent a two year period and together they comprise what i call the jalopy sessions.  i’ve posted most of them on my blog in one form or another and some of them return unalterted.   if you want an mp3 cd, i’ll happily put together some random album art to go along with the cd (hopefully to your amusement).

another rough demo offering for your easy (or uneasy) digestion.  lots of things need to be fixed as you’ll soon find out, but i’m quite happy with the results.  so please, lend me your ears.  just don’t throw them at me.

here’s another demo offering.  the sound quality is a bit worse than usual.  i was working on lyrics for another song and these happened to come up.  it needed to be expelled from my system.

another old song.  in fact, the first song i ever wrote.  it still doesn’t sound any better to me.  here it is anyway.

moses pope is a man from alabama who unwittingly supplied the title for this song.  there’s supposed to be a simple drum beat but i screwed up the first take and didn’t feel like redoing it this time ’round.  perhaps when a certain phantom bear sessions cd is ready. hm.

this is a new version of another old song.  it’s called “say anything” a.k.a. “the annie clark song.”  please enjoy. 

more demos

i’ve got some new demos to share, although you might think i’ve stolen some of your time after listening.  the first one i’d like to “share” with you is something i’ve absurdly titled “slow attack! or running through trees” .  its the product of boredom, an illusion during college (i originally came up with this diddy back then) that i could play a classical guitar somewhat classically (it’s not even remotely close), and imagining what it would sound like to be on drugs.  so naturally, there is some spastic (read: incompetent) drumming.   i can’t seem to stop trying.     

the other one i’d like to share is called “love as war (& war as love misplaced)”.  i attempt to sing high notes on it.  just warning you.  “love as war” is a reworked demo that was originally called “let’s make it happen,” but after more listens, i disliked it.  so now it’s “love as war”, and like most of my other songs, it lacks any chorus.  enjoy!  if you can.

another new demo.  starting to see how limited i am as a musician and how redundant i am as a human being.  i should never play the drums.  unless i practice. a lot.  like for the rest of my life. 

 anyway, the new song is called “in the red” and its not nearly as depressing as i might sound to you right now.
