(un)memorable musings

i drove to the beach today, stood at the edge of the ocean and felt the world sink beneath my feet. in an hour i had escaped suburban mediocrity to entertain the gentle rumble of a siren call.

i always wonder if the sea has a memory. it’s a bit silly, yes, but who doesn’t tend to wax philosophical? i dug just beneath the surface and clenched a small fistful of damp, carrot-cake colored sand in my hand. I felt the grains slip between my fingers, like water through a sieve, like memory through. . .

memory. in an hour’s drive i can relive countless memories. in an instant, i’m in a rollercoaster. and the next, i’m at the beach, wondering why i came in the first place.
